The Field Guide to Ghosts and Other Apparitions

by Hilary Evans and Patrick Huyghe

Quill Books, N.Y., 2000, 163 pages, softcover, price $13.00

Earlier, I have reviewed other books in the Field Guide Series such as one devoted to UFOs and one devoted to Bigfoot-type creatures.  All have Patrick Huyghe as a co-author. Each book has numerous illustrations that recreate a particular paranormal event, in this case ghosts.  It seems one man's ghost story may be another man's UFO story since included in this book are titles of mysterious balls of light, mystery clouds and even a title by an rAF officer who claimed to see planes from the future while he was flying over a base.
There is one Ohio ghost story here.  From Old Washington, Ohio in 1979, a couple restoring an old house saw briefly the apparition of a black child holding a lantern.  Later, one couple found an old rusty lantern in the house and learned the house had once employed black servants and the house had been used as an underground railroad.
This is a concise look at the world of ghosts.
