Alien Contact: Top Secret UFO Files Revealed
by Timothy Good
William Morrow & Co., NY 1993, 288 pages - hardcover

Timothy Good is a British Ufologist best noted for his 1988 worldwide bestseller book Above Top Secret: The Worldwide UFO Cover-Up. Alien Contact mainly concerns rumors that human and aliens have made contact with each other and that the U.S. has in its possession extraterrestrial spacecraft that have either crashed as in Roswell, NM in July 1947, or landed safely at American bases. Good explores the many rumors that our own scientists are working on perfecting flying saucer-shaped craft of their own. Numerous eyewitnesses have seen strange aircraft performing seemingly impossible feats of flying maneuvers near the Groom Lake Area 5 military installation in the state of Nevada.  A scientist, Bob Lazar, claims he used to work at this top secret installation and that he has seen several saucer shaped craft at the base.  He believes they are extraterrestrial in origin and that engineers are developing an Earth based flying saucer based on the extraterrestrial ones.  Lazar has passed polygraph (lie detector) test; but still final proof of these incredible claims is lacking.

Much of Alien Contact cannot be proven.  The stories are highly controversial and subject to various interpretations.  Good leans towards belief that the US government and some aliens have established a liason that is to say aliens are sharing their advanced technology with the government.  In return, it is speculated the aliens have been given a "free hand" to abduct humans for experimentation.  John Lear, famed pilot for the CIA and son of the airline pioneer Bill Lear, is one of those making that fantastic claim.  Possibly, Lear has been told false information in order to make ufologists look gullible or else put them on the false trail.  I did not think Alien Contact was as worthwhile as Good's previous Above Top Secret.  However, the Book of the Month Club is offering Alien Contact as one of its selections.  This is unusual as that popular book club rarely offers books on this unusual subject for sale.  It is well written and very interesting but the reader may ask after finishing Alien Contact is any of this true?
